the makan mission: pasta zanmai

Am back from Penang but I must clear my pre-Penang-trip photos first! Come to think of it, I wasn't done with my Kuching trip posts yet... and the Day 1 post just suddenly went missing like that! Oh well! Chaos chaos~

Went to feast with my dear last Sat after our last observation. I don't know why after each observation I would feel like final exam is over kinda thing. And of course what follows after is celebration! Which means eat, eAT, and EAT!

Tried out Pasta Zanmai this time! My rating: 4 out of 5 stars! d^^b

To my surprise, the price is very reasonable! Yay~! I half-expected that the price would be killing and after the meal I'd feel like... it's okay, indulgence once in a while mah! Food wise, highly satisfactory and recommended. ^^ You eat to your money's worth! And the portion is just nice! No 'Burrrppp! Oh I'm so not gonna come again in a short while!' feeling. Haha... so here we go...!

Both of us shared a tall glass of watermelon juice. I suppose they have different juices each day.

Today's Freshest, RM6. Very... authentic and genuine. Hahah... It's real juice coz it's not as sweet as those commercial ones... I am quite certain they never added sugar or syrup or anything!

For the food, we had Ebi Fry Curry Rice. I simply *heart* Japanese curry!! It's thick, with a hint of sweetness, and not the least hot! Yummy!

Close up with the fried prawns! *salivating despite the fact that I just had lunch*

Another delightful surprise was that the real dish was bigger than the display picture. Hahaha.. you know usually all restaurants would never forget to state that 'all pictures are for illustration purposes only'. And when you see that you can expect a not-as-nice-looking dish when it arrives. This was just the opposite! The photo showed 3 to 4 skinny prawns, so I didn't heighten my expectation. But when the dish came, we went... wowWW!!

We ordered the Ebi Fry Curry Rice in set (RM23), so it came with miso soup and a mini salad. The veggie was fresh and crunchy... and I say, the salad sauce was superb! It's peanut sauce with some thousand island sauce I think. The taste was heavenly! I never look highly upon any kind of salad served in restaurant, but this had definitely impressed me! ^^ I actually scraped the bowl clean! :P

Apart from that, we ordered a mini duo: Mini Teriyaki Chicken Pasta and Mini Hotate Pizza, RM23 as well. They were not too mini. In fact, they were the regular personal size. Just nice to be shared by two. And I must say we made the right choice! The chicken was real tender and juicy! Succulent!

:9 Does it look like the egg's wearing some leafy hat? Hahahahaha...

And the pizza! I love the plate! Hahaha... AND the pizza, of course. It was loaded with toppings! Scallops, mushrooms, and a lot of others which I couldn't make out or remember. I just knew the combination of the taste was... Excellente!

Loaded...

And the crust was thin and crunchy! Oooh... love! d^^b The one thing that I don't like bout Pizza Hut's pizzas is the bread crust. Too thick and bread-ish.. :P Delifrance pizza last time was superb as well, but now it's becoming more and more like Pizza Hut's. Is it a Malaysian thing? Lol...

Basically that was all for Zanmai. *Two thumbs up* ^^For dessert, we went for Secret Recipe cakes! The makan mission had yet to end. Hahaha.

Tried Banana Baked Cheese. Is it a new recipe? Coz I had never seen it till then. But hmmm.. dear and me both thought that it was NOT nice. The cheese cake layer tasted more like eggggg~~ Ugh.. maybe we're full dy so ya, not nice. SR'd better changed its recipe or sth...

Thank God we had a blueberry cheese to make up for the disappointment. The conventional choice is always the safest isn't it? :D But we abandoned the thick fresh cream to avoid that extra grams of fat.

And till then... that's all for our report from the makan partners in crime. ^^ Stay tuned for our Penang Food Hunt!
